We are very proud of our Faye Doherty… a big week for her on many stages, her team from Glenswilly taking County final in debating. Wonderful opportunities to grow in confidence and self esteem.

a poem

You came home from school
on a special bus
full of people
who look like you
and love like you
and you met me
for the first time
and you loved me.
You love everybody
so much that it’s not safe
to let you out alone.
Eleven years of love
and trust and time for you to learn
that you can’t go on loving like this.
Unless you are stopped
you will embrace every person you see.
Normal people don’t do that.
Some Normal people will hurt you
very badly because you do.
Cripples don’t look nice
but you embrace them.
You kissed a wino on the bus
and he broke down and cried
and he said ‘Nobody has kissed me
for the last 30 years.’
But you did.
You touched my face
with your fingers and said
‘I like you.’
The world will never
be ready for you.
Your way is right
and the world will never be ready.
We could learn everything
that we need to know
by watching you
going to your special school
in your special bus
full of people
who look like you
and love like you
and it’s not safe
to let you out alone.
If you’re not normal
there is very little hope
for the rest of us.

Donegal Schools Drama Festival .. super proud of my crew … who in my absence gathered themselves for a group pic because they knew I would want to celebrate their achievements. Congratulations to St Eunans College on their 2nd place overall. and to (Anna Sweeney) (Cassie Lambe) (Meabh Maguire) on their Acting Achievement Awards. Claire Egan on keyboard. Darcy Devenney. Congratulations also to on your Writing Award. Well done to Royal and Prior School Raphoe Co Donegal on overall 1st place for their production of Sive a play by the Irish writer John B. Keane. We really need to take a moment to appreciate the visual aids prepared by Leah Robb (Newtowncunningham) for her Public Speaking Exams next week. This is outstanding and will no doubt have impact and will be very memorable. . She is speaking about how wars have impacted our environment.

🏆🥇🥉Top Prizes this evening. 2024 Soapbox Public Speaking. The topic for this year’s Soapbox was: “AI is not a threat to Humanity”.
The Europe Direct Soapbox public speaking competition is now in its 13th year and took place in the Central Library Letterkenny this evening Thursday 7th November at 6.30pm. Midlands Northwest MEP Maria Walsh was chair for the debates. There were two categories, under 18 and over 18. students had three minutes to argue for or against the motion. All speeches were assessed by a panel of three independent judges and equal marks were awarded for content, delivery, structure and overall impact. We are delighted with results this evening taking 1st place in the over 18’s and Emmanuel Adeogun taking 3rd in the under 18’s. Jiya will now go forward to the national final in Dublin on 26th November where there will be more prizes for the winners!
